This drawing of Jane Goodall is a representation of her closeness to nature in general, and chimpanzees in particular.
I filled the background by rubbing a stick of compressed charcoal on a white stretched canvas.
Jane was a soft-spoken and calm person with a huge aura so I wanted to show this by keeping her face very light. She is present in spirit. In contrast, the chimpanzee is detailed and shows that nature remains a project for us all to work for...
I applied multiple layers of fixative spray to protect the drawing, which gives it a satin finish.
$1,000 will be donated to the Jane Goodall Institute in Australia (please contact me if you would like the donation to be made to a Jane Goodall Institute from an other country instead).
