Alphabet cubes
After drawing the series of Beer Caps, I was looking for a bigger challenge, with a larger amount of drawing to do as part of one collection.
I wanted to offer something a bit more relatable and personal.
I decided, my next series was going to be the letters of the alphabet! Who doesn't like to receive a gift with their initials...
Now I just needed to figure out how to best show the black and white contrast of the letters, and make it more interesting than just a letter in the middle of a page...
I almost gave up on this idea....
When I set out to draw a piece, I generally see it very clearly in my mind and then I just have to draw it in the closest way possible.
This didn't happen quite as smoothly...
I couldn't get the right reference image to match my concept.
But I was quite determined to get this series of 26 drawings completed one way or an other, so I just had to keep experimenting.
Eventually, it all fell into place and my reference photo was the final go ahead I needed to get invested in the whole series.
I hope you enjoy it too!
The process...

This was the winning reference photo which gave me the confirmation to draw the letters with that concept...
The finished artworks...
